What if Allen Iverson's Friends Were Running the Security Detail?

The attrition from the roster of the U.S. Olympic men's basketball team is astounding. An article today on ESPN.com indicates that Shaq will probably bail, and many of the NBA's legion of greats already have indicated that for family or other reasons they will not be participating in the Athens games. One notable exception is Allen Iverson, who apparently is standing firm in his commitment to Coach Larry Brown. That said, I hope that the players who are dropping out are dropping out for bona fide reasons (and not ones akin to how NBA teams stash useful players on the injured list because of proverbial back spasms and knee sprains). If security is their real concern, they shouldn't be that concerned, because the guess here is that AI will travel with some of his boyhood friends to Athens. And given what you read about some of the company AI keeps, those friends really know how to watch his back. Al Qaeda versus Allen Iverson? I'll pick the Answer, any day.

You've hit upon the "answer" to the war on terror. Send AI's posse to eastern Afghanistan to join up with U.S. Special Forces in the hunt for Osama!
