Mea Maxima Culpa!

Okay, so the 11th commandment for a Princeton basketball fan is "Thou Shalt Not Criticize Anything About Princeton Basketball." The 12th commandment, after yesterday, should be "Ivy Hoop Fans Shalt Not Doubt the Ability of the Ivy that Goes to the NCAA Tournament to Win a Game." In other words, boy was I wrong.

Temple is one of my favorite teams and has been for decades. Fran Dunphy is one of my favorite coaches. My father went to Temple. And, I don't think that partisanship got in the way. Temple is a good team.

But so is Cornell, and they showed it yesterday. The Big Red are the first Ivy team to win a game in the NCAA tournament in over 10 years. Great job for the Big Red!

Temple is a team that is not built to catch up if the other team has a hot shooting streak, even thought the Owls do play good defense. Cornell shot 68% in the first half and never looked back. Every Temple run was countered, and the Big Red went up by as much as 18 points in the second half.

Frankly, as a Sixers fan, I might even want Big Red center Jeff Foote (who couldn't play as a walk-on at St. Bonaventure and then, ahem, transferred to Cornell) on my team right now instead of Samuel Dalembert!
